You're invited to my Artist Open House in Southfields (Southwest London) as part of the annual Wandsworth Arts Fringe Festival! My home art studio will be open all weekend from 10 am to 6 pm both Saturday May 7th and Sunday May 8th. For the official full press release, see below.
My exhibition for the Wandsworth Arts Fringe Festival is entitled "Gold Lust" and it will primarily showcase my latest artwork featuring gold leaf. Over the past few months, I've been researching, developing, and creating brand new artworks on art wood panels that combine my love of colour and pattern with the richness and decadence of gold leaf. The end result is an artwork that is truly striking, colourful, and unusual.
What can you expect at my open studio event? You can expect a warm welcome, some spring inspired nibbles and drinks, and of course a wide variety of my colourful creations - from original abstract landscape and floral artwork, to music screenprints, and even handmade jewellery.
Entry (and nibbles and drinks) is entirely free. Children are of course welcome (and will receive a special treat). I'm just a 5 minute walk from Southfields tube on the District Line and about a 10 minute walk from Earlsfield Station, and very close to the Southfields high street which boasts some great restaurants and pubs. I'd love to see you there! And for my friends and customers who live further away and won't be able to come visit, I'd appreciate if you share this even with your friends or family in London that could be interested.

London based contemporary artist Vera Blagev is delighted to showcase her latest mixed media artworks featuring gold leaf as part of the Wandsworth Arts Fringe Festival. For the past five years, Vera has been exclusively using water based media to create her colourful bold artworks. Vera’s use of colour is particularly strong as she creates vibrant colours that jump out of the paintings. Her new exhibition Gold Lust will primarily showcase her latest artwork featuring gold leaf. Over the past few months, Vera has been researching, developing, and creating brand new artworks on art wood panels that combine her love of colour and pattern with the richness and decadence of gold leaf. The end result is an artwork that is truly striking, colourful, and unusual.
Vera is inspired by nature and the dramatic landscapes that she has seen during her travels to more than 50 countries. Vera says, “I love nature and its ability to renew, heal, and inspire. With my artwork, I remove the distractions of the small details of the specific landscape or flower and distil the whole visual and emotional experience into its fundamental component lines and shapes. Into one single image that captures the essence of the mood.”
Having been born in Bulgaria and spent the first ten years of her life there, Vera then spent nearly 20 years in the USA, where her family is still based. For the past 8 years, she’s made London her home having been drawn to the city by its diversity, energy, and history.
This exhibition will mark Vera’s first participation in the Wandsworth Arts Fringe Festival following on from a successful participation in the October 2015 Wandsworth Artists Open House event. Vera has been exhibiting and selling her work in the USA and the UK for nearly 15 years, including most recently at the Windsor Contemporary Art Fair, the Harrogate International Visual Arts Expo and several open house events including the Dulwich Open House. Her artwork is held at various personal collections in the USA, UK, France and Brazil. In 2005, she was awarded a grant from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (in Washington DC) to help support her work.
“Since moving to Wandsworth just over one year ago, I’ve been really impressed with the level of creativity and talent in this vibrant borough,” says Vera. “It has been wonderful to feel so supported and encouraged as a local artist and engage with the community and other Wandsworth artists.” Her positive experiences of interacting with other London artists have led Vera to launch a new initiative aimed at creating a new vibrant forum for London artists. In February 2016, Vera founded the London Professional Artists Meetup aimed specifically at artists in and around London who are serious about creating, exhibiting and selling their artwork.
Vera's open home studio events are an opportunity for visitors to see a variety of work, including her latest gold leaf mixed media artworks, in a relaxed home environment. Based in Southfields (a 5 minute walk from the Southfields tube station and a 10 minute walk from Earlsfield station), Vera's home studio is close to Replingham Street. The event is free and open to all (children and families are welcome).

About Vera Blagev:
Vera Blagev is a London based artist creating colourful modern mixed media artwork. Having travelled to more than 50 countries, and lived in three of them, Vera now calls London her home. She has exhibited her work in the UK and the USA over the past 15 years and is a grant recipient from the Washington DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Vera is interested in creating artwork that is fundamentally unquestionably beautiful. Focusing on what is most inspiring, calming and aesthetically pleasing in this world, nature as a theme comes back again and again. Vera predominantly uses water based media in a new and unique way. She intertwines traditional calligraphy ink, which has been used for thousands of years for paintings in Asia, with the very modern medium of liquid acrylic ink. Using two different water-based mediums with her own techniques, she is able to create a sense of movement and energy in her paintings. Her artwork leaps off the paper, grabs the viewer, and transports them to a beautiful serene place.

About Wandsworth Arts Fringe:
Wandsworth Arts Fringe (WAF) is a vibrant, annual showcase of creative activity taking place across the borough of Wandsworth. For two weeks in May you will be able to see some of the most dynamic and exciting work being made by local and national artists. Street performances, family workshops, exhibitions, music and dance will be hosted by established venues, but also encountered in the parks, charity shops, galleries, libraries pubs and even the bakeries of Wandsworth. Historically WAF has been part of Wandsworth Arts Festival, which comprised of a small number of strategic commissions curated by Wandsworth Arts Team. In 2013, a clear distinction was made for Wandsworth Arts Fringe to stand alone to benefit from the international strength of the ‘Fringe’ brand. Wandsworth Fringe is co-ordinated on behalf of Wandsworth Council by the Arts Team of Enable Leisure and Culture, in collaboration with a steering group of local representatives and independent Fringe Producer, Cath Mattos who is also Projects Director at World Festival Network and World Fringe.
