Paris Sympathies - Reflections on a Tragedy in Paris

I join the millions of other people across the world who are in shock and horror at the events that have happened in Paris. As somebody who was in New York on 9/11 many years ago, I can understand the raw emotion, frustration, anger and confusion that many might feel. I also understand the sensitivity with which the aftermath of these events needs to be handled with and therefore, I won’t add my two cents about what I feel or what I think. That’s irrelevant. What is relevant is to add my sympathy to the families and loved ones of those most affected by this tragedy. Nothing will ever replace your loss, but you are not alone. The entire world feels your pain. France is a country that has given the world many wonderful things and many talented people (doctors, artists, musicians, scientists, actors). The influence of France and its people is one that is felt across the world in many ways. The words that you believe in are ones that we can all aspire to reach – Liberté, égalité, fraternité – Liberty, Equality, Fraternity. My thoughts are with you during these difficult times – now and for the long days and years ahead.
