Vera Blagev is a modern abstract artist living in working in Dorking, Surrey. Born in Bulgaria, Vera has spent nearly twenty years in the USA (including Minnesota, Florida, Philadelphia, New York City, and Washington DC), where she still has strong family ties, and 10 years in London. Having been creating artwork all her life, Vera started exhibiting and selling her art more than 10 years ago. In the past, Vera has worked with various media including coloured pencils, watercolours, pastels, oil, acrylic, textile art, ceramic, and found objects. For the past five years, Vera has focused her arts practice on water based media – specifically calligraphy ink and liquid acrylic ink. Vera’s artwork is primarily influenced by nature and her travels to more than 50 countries. Her experiences of the natural world are strong inspirations for her artwork focusing on abstract landscapes, seascapes, florals, and purely abstract textural compositions.
Vera has exhibited and sold her artwork throughout the USA and UK through galleries, art fairs, pop-up events and festivals, and other venues. In 2005, Vera was a grant recipient from the Washington DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities to help support her work. Her artwork is held at personal collections in various countries including the UK, the USA, Brazil, Sweden, and Bulgaria. Vera has recently shown her artwork in the UK at numerous art fairs (including the 11th annual Windsor Contemporary Art Fair 2015 and the 2015 inaugural Harrogate International Visual Arts Expo), art markets, arts festivals, and pop-ups including several events sponsored by Southwark Arts Forum. In addition, she is a regular exhibitor at open house events in London, including the 2014 Dulwich Artist Open House Festival, the 2015, 2016, and 2017 Wandsworth Artists Open House events, the 2016 Wandsworth Arts Fringe Festival, and several Wimbledon Art Studios events. Vera has also exhibited her Gold Lust series featuring gold leaf alongside her favoured water-based media at the A&D Gallery in 2016 (as part of being one of the winning artists for Pebeo's inaugural Mixed Media competition).
In addition to being a fine artist, Vera is a regular blogger, reviewer of cultural events, and creator of various creativity challenges (including her recent #threelittlewords project).
